Bond Election Set for November 6

On Tuesday, November 6, a very important bond proposal will be placed before voters in the Algonac Community School District. Approval of the bond proposal will allow the district to make needed repairs and updates to all school buildings without increasing the current tax rate.

The bond proposal will focus on addressing safety, energy, and technology needs throughout the school district. New fire alarm systems will be installed; worn roofs, windows and doors will be replaced; and, school entries will remodeled to provide a designated, secure entry to each building. In addition, technology replacements will be made to further enhance the delivery of classroom instruction.

At Algonquin Middle School, major improvements will include updating mechanical/electrical systems; replacing worn carpeting and flooring; updating the building to a geothermal heating and cooling system; replacing outdated technology in all classrooms; remodeling the auditorium including replacing seating and upgrading the sound and lighting systems; remodeling toilet rooms; replacing corridor and gym lockers; creating a new computer lab; and, replacing classroom furnishings.

It is important that all registered voters cast their vote on November 6. If you are not a registered voter, you have until October 9 to register. You can register to vote at your township office, any Secretary of State office, or by picking up an application from any school office. If you have moved, had a name change or have not voted recently, you might want to check with your township clerk to make sure that you will be able to vote on November 6.

If you have any questions about the bond issue please call me at 794-9317 or Algonac Community Schools Superintendent, Mike Sharrow at 794-9364.
